Officials from the Disaster Management Department of Ghana confirmed on May 26 that a landslide occurred in a gold mine in the central province of the country on the 25th, causing at least three deaths and dozens of others to be trapped.

Joe Tangke, an official of the Ghana Disaster Management Department, said that the collapsed gold mine is an abandoned gold mining site that has been closed previously.

Rescuers have found the remains of 3 victims at the scene of the accident.

In addition, based on clues such as the 4 excavators left at the scene, it is speculated that the number of trapped people may exceed 40.

Currently rescue work is still in progress, hoping to rescue the trapped people.

Ghana is one of the important gold producing countries in Africa.

In July 2019, an accident occurred at a gold mine in the central region of the country, causing dozens of miners to be trapped underground.
