Two members, Roger Larsson (KD) and Roland Jonsson (politically savage) appealed the decisions that they were not allowed to physically attend meetings of the administrative court.

They believed that the elected members were barred by the decision from attending the meetings physically and that meetings were held without the participants being able to see each other all the time.

"No unauthorized negative impact"

In the judgment from the Administrative Court, where the decision was unanimous, it is now stated that the Local Government Act does not pose any obstacle to participation in meetings taking place at a distance.

Nor is there any legal obstacle to allowing the chairman to take a position on this issue at each meeting.

- Admittedly, the provisions on distance participation are primarily intended to provide an opportunity for participation in decision-making that would not otherwise have been possible.

However, the text of the law does not prevent the council from holding meetings at a distance, for example during the current pandemic, says Carina Ludvigsson, councilor, in a press release.

- The municipality's decision has not had an unauthorized negative impact on the democratic decision-making process.
