Special Envoy Bergner, who is in charge of Myanmar issues at the United Nations, responded to NHK's independent interview, saying that in order to overcome the current situation where the military continues to crack down on civilians, a dialogue where all parties gather should be hurried, and the dialogue will be realized. He expressed his desire to seek cooperation with the Japanese government.

Mr. Bergner, who has been a special envoy for the Myanmar issue since 2018, has held talks with Myanmar's democratic forces and officials of neighboring countries in order to respond to the turmoil after the coup d'etat, and last month, Min Aung Hlaing, the top Myanmar army in Indonesia. I had a meeting with Commander Aung Hlaing.



Special Envoy Bergner will visit Japan on the 26th to meet with Foreign Minister Mogi and exchange opinions with experts familiar with the situation in Myanmar.



In a solo interview with NHK, Special Envoy Bergner said, "As many people as possible should participate in the dialogue and find a common understanding. We must help the citizens with daily casualties." He emphasized the idea that a dialogue where all parties should come together should be expedited.



On top of that, Special Envoy Bergner said, "Japan has a very good relationship with all the parties concerned in Myanmar. I would like to make sure that Japan also wants to participate in the concept of the dialogue." He expressed his desire to explore.



On the other hand, when asked if Japan should also impose sanctions imposed on the military by the West, he merely stated that "each UN member state should decide."
