The Boliden Rönnskär smelter in Skelleftehamn with approximately 850 employees is a business that needs approximately the same type of labor as the company Northvolt.

Now that the battery factory is to employ about 3,000 people in the industry alone, which many younger people are showing interest in, the traditional basic industry needs to get on its toes.

- Its a challenge.

We have had low staff turnover, but now several things are happening at the same time that we need to think new, states Karin Ahnqvist, who is HR and sustainability manager at Boliden Rönnskär.

Do not see Northvolt as a competitor

Her assessment is that Boliden Rönnskär will need to recruit 100 employees annually for a period of ten years.

This is to replace retirements, but also because new skills are needed in line with developments.

Still, she does not want to see Northvolt as a competitor.

- We could make it easy for ourselves and think that we should try to steal from each other, but this is where we must see the common traction we get from each other instead, says Karin Ahnqvist.

Emphasizes the importance of moving in

- It should be remembered that the whole of Sweden is facing major generational changes and the challenges of managing the supply of skills we have already before Northvolt got started.

She also emphasizes the importance of moving in and points to the cooperation that already exists to strengthen the local labor market.
