It is the Railway Technical Center (JVTC) at the university that receives the Swedish Transport Administration's trust.

The research's focus is on the operation and maintenance of infrastructure and railway bridges.

This will ultimately lead to Sweden's railways having increased operational reliability and service life, higher capacity and safety and more punctual trains.

- For Sweden's knowledge and innovation needs in the railway, this investment means a lot.

The results of the investment will be felt above all through a reduction in operational disruptions, unplanned stops and derailments

and that we get more punctual trains, says Uday Kumar, professor of operation and maintenance at Luleå University of Technology and director of JVTC in a press release.

Luleå University of Technology also plans to start a master's degree program with a focus on sustainable transport and mobility.
