Indian company Tata Steel announced on Sunday its intention to continue paying the wages of its employees who died of Covid-19.

The families of the deceased will receive the remuneration of their loved one until the date when the latter would have been 60 years old, the company said in a statement on Twitter.

The amount taken into account will be that of the last income received.

#TataSteel has taken the path of #AgilityWithCare by extending social security schemes to the family members of the employees affected by # COVID19.

While we do our bit, we urge everyone to help others around them in any capacity possible to get through these tough times.

The steel giant will also maintain health insurance for its missing employees in favor of their families.

Tata Steel will not interrupt the payment of allowances and housing assistance from which the deceased benefited.

"The company covers all expenses related to the education of their children until they obtain [by them] a diploma in India," the statement said.

A country hard hit by the Covid-19

"The Tata Steel family stoically supports all of its members by committing to their safety and well-being," said the company.

Initiatives are increasing in India among the country's largest employers to financially support the families of employees killed by the coronavirus, reports the BBC.

Among the groups that have implemented such measures are the hotel specialist Oyo Rooms and the glassmaker Borosil.

“While doing our part, we ask everyone, to the best of their ability, to help those around them come out of these difficult times,” Tata Steel wrote on Twitter.

The official number of people who died from Covid-19 in India exceeded 300,000 on Monday.
