Long lines form in front of tents and house entrances across the city.

It seems like there is something for free.

And that's also true: There are free corona tests for everyone and thus the license for outdoor catering and the long-awaited shopping experience in the store.

Without a test, that would be unattainable for most.

Those who are not fully vaccinated or have recovered cannot avoid the "bouncers" without a negative certificate.

What many do not know: Everyone can theoretically have as many reductions as they want, because there is no upper limit in Hesse.

When asked by the Ministry of Social Affairs, it says: "Everyone can be tested an unlimited number of times free of charge in the test centers named by the local authorities."

The federal government bears the costs.

There are currently 1186 registered test centers in Hesse, 111 of them in Frankfurt.

Often they are operated by commercial providers or the municipalities themselves, according to the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs.

Full utilization every day

Also there is the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund, which runs ten test centers in Frankfurt, including those at Hauptwache and Borsigallee.

An average of 140 people are tested there every day.

This is the full capacity in terms of room size and staff, as employee Katrin Breschke reports.

However, the number of daily tests varies between the different centers and depends on the location and size of the facility.

There are also weekly checks to ensure that the tests are carried out correctly.

The demand has been high since the opening of hairdressers and nail salons: "The appointments are always booked half a week in advance." With the opening of the outdoor catering, the demand has increased again significantly, like an employee of the Main Corona test center says.

On Monday, a total of 1,140 people were tested in the company's three centers, more than ever before.

He is not worried about the high demand: "There are enough tests and we can test around 50 to 60 people per hour with two to three employees."
