China News Agency, Washington, May 25 (Reporter Chen Mengtong) The White House announced on the 25th that US President Biden and Russian President Putin will meet in Geneva, Switzerland on June 16.

The White House Press Secretary Psaki said in a brief statement that the leaders of the two countries will discuss various pressing issues as they seek to restore the predictability and stability of US-Russian relations.

Biden will start his first trip during his tenure in June.

According to the plan, he will attend the G7 summit in the UK from June 11th to 13th, and then go to the Belgian capital Brussels to attend the NATO summit.

Biden said in April that he proposed to Putin to hold a meeting in Europe this summer to discuss bilateral relations.

After the meeting, the two countries can conduct strategic and stable dialogues and can also cooperate to deal with global challenges such as the Iranian nuclear, North Korean nuclear, epidemic and climate change.

US-Russian relations have continued to be tense in recent years.

After the Biden administration came to power, the United States and Russia quickly extended the validity of the "New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty" for five years, but confrontations intensified over issues such as Ukraine, cyber security, human rights, and election interference.

In April this year, the US government imposed large-scale sanctions on Russia and expelled 10 Russian diplomats on the grounds of malicious activities such as Russia’s cyber attacks and interference in US elections.

Russia subsequently responded reciprocally, expelling 10 American diplomats in Russia.

On May 7, the Colonial Pipeline Transportation Company of the United States was attacked by hackers. Later, the United States determined that the person who carried out the cyber attack lived in Russia, but the incident had nothing to do with the Russian government.

Regarding this incident, Biden has stated that responsible countries must take action against cybercrime, and the US has been communicating with Russia on this matter.

The US is trying to establish relevant international standards, and he expects to discuss this matter when he meets with Putin.
