The General Committee and Plenary Session of the 74th World Health Assembly respectively passed decisions on May 24, rejecting individual countries’ proposals to "invite Taiwan to participate in the World Health Assembly as an observer" on the agenda of the Assembly.

The World Health Assembly rejects Taiwan-related proposals for the fifth consecutive year, fully demonstrating that the one-China principle has become the universal consensus of the international community. It is a popular and general trend that cannot be challenged.

Ambassador Chen Xu, the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office in Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, said in his speech that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory. Taiwan-related proposals violate the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and violate the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 and The one-China principle confirmed by the World Health Assembly Resolution 25.1 violates the WHO Constitution and the Rules of Procedure of the World Health Assembly, and is illegal and invalid.

Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly must be handled through cross-strait consultations in accordance with the one-China principle.

The DPP authorities stubbornly adhere to the "Taiwan independence" stance and refuse to recognize that both sides of the strait belong to the same China. The political basis for Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly no longer exists.

Chen Xu said that under the premise of the one-China principle, the Chinese central government has made proper arrangements for Taiwan's participation in global health affairs.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the Chinese central government has notified Taiwan 260 times of information on the new crown pneumonia epidemic, and approved Taiwan’s health experts to participate in WHO technical activities several times and receive several times the WHO Secretariat’s epidemic information notifications. There is no so-called “international” issue. Gap in the epidemic prevention system".

Chen Xu emphasized that the World Health Assembly has long been determined on Taiwan-related issues, and individual countries insisted on submitting Taiwan-related proposals, which undermined international cooperation in the fight against the epidemic and the common interests of the vast number of member states.

Relevant countries should stop politicizing the health issue, stop interfering in China's internal affairs through the Taiwan issue, and stop interfering with the normal order of the conference.

After the meeting, Chen Xu told reporters that in the context of the continuous spread of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the majority of member states look forward to this conference to continue to focus on international anti-epidemic cooperation.

Individual countries insisted on making Taiwan-related proposals, which seriously violated the one-China principle confirmed by the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly and the World Health Assembly, and were opposed by the overwhelming majority of countries.

On the eve of the opening of this conference, more than 150 countries have sent letters to the WHO through diplomatic channels and more than 80 countries, expressing their adherence to the one-China principle and their opposition to Taiwan’s participation in the WHO conference.

Facts have repeatedly proved that making Taiwan-related proposals is unpopular.

Any secessionist attempt to create "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan" is doomed to fail.
