In 2012, Assignment Review went to Minsk to record the first part of a series of reviews about Telia and how, through its operator Life, where they were then larger, they had the regime intercept critics, opposition figures and journalists.

One of those who had his phone tapped was Roman Protasevich, a then 16-year-old democracy activist.

- We thought it was remarkable that such a young person was also monitored, says Sven Bergman, reporter at Assignment Review.

But the interview did not have time to start before a van drove up and interrupted the interview.

- Out came police and plainclothes, who we later understood were KGB officers, and drove us away.

The team and Protasevich were arrested.

They were taken away and interrogated.

Only later, when everyone was released, could the interview be conducted.

- The interrogation was very tough, I do not know what they want from me, Roman Protasevich said then.
