"Information on the total quantities of strategic offensive arms in Russia and the United States is provided as of March 1, 2021, based on the notifications provided for by the START Treaty, which the parties exchanged in March 2021," reads a statement on the agency's website.

In particular, it is noted that "the figure allowed in accordance with subparagraph c) of paragraph 1 of Article II of the Treaty is exceeded by the United States by 101 units."

Earlier it was reported that Russia and the United States began procedures to agree on a schedule of inspections and consultations under the extended Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START III).

On February 3, the Russian Foreign Ministry exchanged notes with the US Embassy on the completion of the internal procedures necessary for the entry into force of the agreement on the extension of the START Treaty.
