The alarm about the burning barn came shortly after two o'clock Monday night.

When the rescue service and police arrived at the scene, it burned with open flames from both the barn and a nearby desolate house.

A moment later, a man in his 50s appeared at a nearby address, and certain circumstances led the police to suspect and arrest him.

- There was some information that pointed to this man, and the suspicions were sharpened during the night, says the police's spokesperson Peter Adlersson.

Prevented spread

Neither animals nor humans should have been in the buildings, both of which burned to the ground.

However, the rescue service was able to prevent the fire from spreading further.

The man, who is just under 50 years old, was arrested on Monday.

Is there reason to believe that the same man is behind more, similar crimes?

- It is too early to say, but we will look at some previous cases concerning vandalism, says Stina frenning who is the head of the preliminary investigation at the police in Borås.
