This year's Pirate Prize goes to the author Karin Brunk Holmqvist, confirms the Pirate Society's treasurer Peter Danielsson, on the phone for SVT Nyheter Skåne shortly after noon on Monday.

The motivation is:

With an authorship that is permeated by humor, warmth and compassion, and a strong connection to the Pirate's Scanian landscape - not least Österlen - this year's laureates have become popular and read like few others.

With almost two million books sold, her career has been rocketing since her relatively late debut in the 1990s.

With an eye for the small details in everything, she also shares the Pirate's penchant for odd existences and forgotten places.

The prize money is SEK 150,000.
