An absurd medical accident took place in an Austrian hospital where the wrong place was amputated, not the patient's surgical site.

According to foreign media such as CNN in the U.S. on the 21st local time, an 82-year-old patient who was admitted to Freistadt Hospital in Austria was scheduled to undergo an amputation of the left leg on the 18th.

This patient, who had suffered from various complications in his old age, was known to have particularly severe symptoms of both legs.

Among them, the medical staff, who determined that if the left leg was not amputated, could be dangerous, recommended the patient to have surgery, and the patient agreed after long thoughts.

However, shortly after the amputation was over, the hospital turned over.

The surgeon who performed the surgery had amputated the patient's right leg, not the left leg, and later realized that something was wrong.

This major accident was caused by a hospital employee's mistake. The staff in charge of marking the surgical site on the patient's body before the surgery left a mark on the other leg due to an instant error, and the doctor turned out to have performed the wrong operation without recognizing this mistake.

Eventually, the patient had to amputate the left leg in another operation.

The hospital said in an official statement, "There was a tragic and terrible mistake. It was a simple mistake that was never intentional."

In addition, the hospital asked the prosecution to investigate the facts related to the medical accident. He added, "We will actively respond to all investigations so that there is no suspicion of an accident."

The doctor who performed the operation was told to resign himself from hospital work.
