Wu Mengchao was born in Minqing County, Fujian Province in 1922, and went to Malaysia with his family as a child.

Later, Wu Mengchao returned to China alone and was admitted to Tongji Medical College.

In the age of war roaring, he chose to rely on his benevolence and medical skills to help the world.

China used to be the area with the highest incidence of hepatitis and liver cancer, and has concentrated about half of the world's liver cancer patients.

But until the establishment of the People's Republic of China, liver surgery was still blank.

Under the advice of his teacher Qiu Fazu, Wu Mengchao decided to enter the "forbidden zone" of liver surgery.

From then on, "Let's try the courage, bravely break into the restricted area" has become his motto.

In more than 70 years, Wu Mengchao led the team to successfully complete the world's first middle hepatic lobectomy, from the age of Fenghua Zhengmao to the maiden, and successfully removed the world's largest hepatic cavernous hemangioma, which was the youngest patient in the world. Hepatoblastoma... The success rate of liver cancer surgery in China has increased from 15% in the early 1960s to 98.5%, and the overall 5-year survival rate of patients undergoing liver cancer resection is close to 50%.

A series of achievements have attracted the attention of the world medical community.

Wu Mengchao used his original hepatic portal block method to remove a 9 kg tumor for a girl Wang Tiantian who is going to college; conduct remote consultations for the wounded in the Wenchuan earthquake; complete textbook-like classic operations one after another, bringing hope to patients and families And happiness.

Although fruitful, Wu Mengchao's value is not to create miracles, but to save lives.

In Wu Mengchao's eyes, treating patients is more important than ever.

In 2005, Wu Mengchao was recommended to participate in the National Highest Science and Technology Award, and the Ministry of Science and Technology sent a working group to conduct an assessment and talk to him.

The hospital "intimately" cancelled his surgery for the next day.

After Wu Mengchao learned about it, he insisted not to postpone the operation.

He explained that the patient was a poor Henan farmer in his 60s who was seriously ill, and his fellow villagers pooled money to help him go to Shanghai for medical treatment. It would be a burden for them to stay in the hospital for one more day.

In Wu Mengchao's life, there are many such tearful stories.

He always puts himself in his mind for the sake of patients, and requires doctors to treat patients with the simplest, cheapest and most effective method.

Wu Mengchao once said to his assistant: "We need to see a doctor, but also to save people." Patients who are dyingly ill often receive active treatment and comfort in Wu Mengchao's outpatient clinic.

In 2006, Wu Mengchao won the 2005 National Highest Science and Technology Award.

He resolutely donated RMB 6 million in prize money, and joined 6 well-known academicians to submit to the State Council a proposal for "integrated research on the pathogenesis and prevention of hepatitis B liver cancer", which was included in a major national science and technology project.

Today, the National Liver Cancer Science Center has stood in Anting, Shanghai, and has become the world's largest liver cancer research and prevention base.

Promoting Chinese liver medicine from scratch, from being to being refined, Wu Mengchao's achievements have attracted the attention and admiration of colleagues around the world.
