The intestinal bacterium is difficult to treat because it is resistant to antibiotics.

- The outbreak is worrying, especially given the pressured situation at the hospital based on the pandemic.

We have now formed a special working group that is taking a number of strong measures to deal with the situation.

To protect patients from infection, we have had to make a small reduction in the number of care places, says Erik Stenkvist, chief physician at Vrinnevis Hospital, in a comment on the region's site.

The affected patients are cared for in a ward at the surgical unit and since the outbreak became known, a special working group has been added.

In addition, patients are sampled prior to enrollment in the ward, during the care period and at discharge.

Spaces are also cleaned extra carefully, as the bacterium easily gets attached to different surfaces and can thus be spread further.
