China News Service, Guangzhou, May 19 (Cai Minjie and Wei Jiefu) The Zhongshan Eye Center of Sun Yat-Sen University stated on the 19th that the center has admitted two patients with difficult eye diseases referred by Macau.

With the help of the relevant referral mechanism, Macau patients were successfully treated in Guangzhou and regained their health.

After treatment, one of the patients has returned to Macau.

The other patient was an 18-year-old girl from Macau, Xiaoxin (a pseudonym). Her left eye had decreased vision for more than a year. After seeing a local hospital, she was diagnosed with left eye keratoconus.

Since keratoconus is a rare case and there is no treatment in Macau, the Macau doctor recommended that Xiao Xin be referred to the mainland for treatment.

After being approved by the Macau Health Bureau, Xiao Xin transferred to the Zhongshan Eye Center of Sun Yat-Sen University.

On May 18, the Myopia Laser Therapy Department of Zhongshan Eye Center performed an operation for Xiaoxin. On May 19, the operation was reviewed again. The current condition is good.

Liu Chang, a myopia laser treatment physician at Sun Yat-sen University's Zhongshan Eye Center, said that there is no better treatment for keratoconus, but corneal cross-linking treatment is a treatment measure to control and delay the condition.

The "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Plan Outline" proposes that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will study the development of cross-border land transport services for non-emergency and critical patients, and explore pilot projects for cross-border referral cooperation in designated public hospitals.

With the further deepening of medical cooperation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, cross-border referrals have been carried out smoothly in many hospitals.

Xiao Xin told reporters that the successful surgical treatment in Guangzhou this time was due to the convenient referral policy of the Greater Bay Area. “If you drive by yourself, you will be unfamiliar with the place and procedures, but the Macau government will help us directly refer It’s very convenient, because the government has already done all the processes for us."

Wu Yanling, head of the Department of Medical Affairs and Cadre Health, Sun Yat-sen University's Zhongshan Eye Center, said that the current cross-border convenient referral is a new attempt for the center. For those who are transferred to Guangzhou, after obtaining the guarantee letter and referral letter of introduction, the patient can go to Guangzhou for direct hospitalization, without having to make an appointment, register, and pay by himself, or even settle the medical expenses by himself. We will conduct the follow-up process with relevant Macau authorities. Centralized settlement." (End)
