Team USA captain Steve Stricker is hoping to make Tiger Woods, who is recovering from a car accident, his assistant at the upcoming Ryder Cup in September, he said on Wednesday.

"He's really good as an assistant and I'd love to have him by our side, if that's possible," Stricker said of Woods, who was in a car crash in California on February 23, where he had had his right leg broken.

At 45, Woods has 15 Grand Slam titles to his name and ended an eleven-year famine by winning the prestigious Augusta Masters in April 2019.

"As an assistant captain, he listens to everyone and the players like it. They like having him with them and he brings a lot", added the captain of the American team, on the eve of the Championship. the PGA at Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

According to Stricker, Woods, who doesn't know when he will be able to replay, has indicated to him that he could at least help him in an advisory role.

“I don't know if I'll be able to be there but you know I'm there for you until the Ryder Cup,” said Woods, according to Stricker.

Postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ryder Cup will be played from September 24 to 26 in the United States at Whistling Straits (Wisconsin) where Europe will try to retain its title.
