19 May 2021 New strong eruption in Stromboli, with a high column of smoke, launch of incandescent lapilli and lava spill. The flow, which is descending into the sea, along the sciara del fuoco, a desert area of the island, also caused a landslide.
The activity of Stromboli, already intense for a few days, is followed by volcanologists from Ingv and civil protection. The roar was distinctly felt by the inhabitants and tourists who have begun to crowd the island in recent days.
Eruption also of Etna
The phenomenon occurs a few hours after the eruption of the other great Sicilian volcano. Etna lit up the sky at dawn with a spectacular new eruption. Through the mist of the early morning it was possible to admire the suggestive lava fountains. The activity started shortly after 2 am and ended around 7 am. It is since it awakened on February 16th that the most active volcano in Europe has been giving shows of this kind on a regular basis.
