This is the second attack targeting a neighborhood in the town of Tin-Akoff in a few weeks.

This Wednesday, while the inhabitants of the hamlet of Adjarara culture were gathered for a baptism ceremony, armed men on motorcycles appeared and shot the inhabitants.

According to a report drawn up by the governor of the Sahel region, fifteen people were killed.

All the victims are men.

We believe that this is reprisal, because it is one of the districts which gives alerts in the event of movements of armed men in the area,

" a source close to the matter told RFI.

A few hours after the attack, a patrol from the military detachment of Markoye came across a group of armed men a few kilometers from Tin Akoff.

After the exchange of fire, fifteen members of the armed group were neutralized, according to security sources.

An injured Burkinabè soldier was evacuated for treatment.

It is not yet known whether these armed men are the same as those who led the raid against the populations in Adjarara.

Tin-Akoff had already been targeted by an attack

on the night of May 8 to 9.

At least three men had been killed and houses set on fire.

Since 2015, the official toll of jihadist attacks in Burkina Faso has been around 1,300 dead and more than a million displaced.
