With the Renaissance Dam crisis reaching the height of the complexity between its three parties;

Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry came out with statements that seemed to retreat from the sharp tone spoken by officials in his country over the past two months about the dangers of the second filling of the Ethiopian dam, which sparked widespread interaction on social media.

The foreign minister spoke in a reassuring tone about the dangers of starting the second filling of the planned dam next July, confirming that Egyptian interests were not affected by the filling, indicating his country's ability to deal with risks through tight procedures in managing water resources, he said.

Shukry added - during his televised interview yesterday evening with Nashat Al-Dehi, one of the media professionals close to the authority in Egypt - that Egypt has a balance of safety available in the High Dam reservoir.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had warned on more than one occasion during the past two months about the repercussions of the Renaissance Dam file on the security and stability of the region, stressing that all options are open to his country to protect its water security.

Al-Sisi's warnings accompanied the participation of Egyptian and Sudanese armies in military maneuvers under the name "Nile Eagles."

This statement means that the regime has abandoned Egypt's share of the Nile, meaning a major failure in managing the most important resource for the life of this country, meaning that all negotiations were fake for domestic consumption and that they were bothering us to the point that this statement felt that it was originally issued by the Ethiopian Foreign Minister https: // t .co / VVcHdXchbj

And what are we waiting for from a failed political administration that has been lured by Ethiopia for more than seven years in futile negotiations until Ethiopia completes its blocking of it and makes this administration in front of other sites, and Ethiopia knows that they are its failure and will not be able to stop the second filling of Sadou, and that they will justify their failure as usual with flimsy justifications, contrary to what they said earlier

A disappointed and weak statement says that there will be no damage in the second filling, and that any response linked to the occurrence of damage

is that we forgot why the harm will occur!

What is Ethiopia, explained, and he said that the Nile is all of

it. We forgot that we stayed until they cut off the water from us, and then we are surprised to say what is this damage happened ?!

# Ethiopia, OK, when the second filling did not harm Egypt, what was a crisis that wanted to try it nearer and the red line # Renaissance Dam

Failure and betrayal

The recent statements of the Egyptian Foreign Minister were denounced by a number of social media users, who considered it an explicit declaration of the failure of the authority to protect Egypt's rights from the waters of the Nile.

But the interesting thing is that the reactions on social media platforms were not limited to speaking of condemnation and criticism of the change of the Egyptian official position, but some even reached the point of accusing the Minister of Foreign Affairs of treason and demanding his punishment.

If Sameh Shoukry's statement about the second filling of the Ethiopian Millennium Dam (Al-Nahda) was true, this would be considered a conclusive evidence of betrayal.

Punished.

Shoukry: The second filling of the Renaissance Dam will not affect our interests ... and we have a water balance in the High Dam reservoir https://t.co/RDGIikVGR5 pic.twitter.com/xme9qFEPHC

Accurate remarks

On the other hand, the statements of the Egyptian Foreign Minister were supported by a number of social media pioneers, on the grounds that they deal with a specific technical angle, which is related to the second filling and not the damage of the Renaissance Dam in general.

Actually, the second filling will not affect Egypt, and his words are correct.

First, Egypt has a surplus of water that suffices for us up to two years, and there is fear that the next year will be little rain in Ethiopia and thus it will affect the water reserves in Egypt. Therefore, Egypt wants the second filling with a reasonable amount of water that does not affect Egypt.

The cause of damage is the main point. The point of the second filling is a secondary point, and it is natural that any official who speaks on a specific topic must speak about it from the main part, not the secondary,

until you will notice that President Sisi when he talks about the file # Dam_Al-Nahda is not talking about the second filling as a primary topic 👇

It is worth noting that Shoukry’s statements, which sparked widespread controversy, are not the first of their kind, as he previously underestimated the danger of the second filling of the Renaissance Dam, during a speech he delivered to the Egyptian Parliament in mid-April.

He added that the technical evaluation indicates that no harm will be caused to Egypt in the event that the Ethiopian side completes the second filling. "This is within the framework of expectation, but everything depends on studies and accurate evaluation on the ground of what is actually happening."

He emphasized that the High Dam and its reservoir give Egypt the ability to absorb much of what results from filling the Renaissance Dam reservoir.

It seems that the Egyptian authorities tried to reduce the impact of the foreign minister's statements after they sparked criticism on the communication sites, where the Speaker of Parliament Hanafi Jabali said that Egypt rejects the policy of imposing the fait accompli and any unilateral measures related to the second filling of the Renaissance Dam lake.

During his meeting with the Speaker of the Zimbabwean Parliament, Jabali said that Egypt's position is clear in the current negotiations on the Ethiopian dam, stressing that Egypt wants development for the Ethiopian side, but there is clear intransigence from it that impedes reaching a binding legal and technical agreement.
