According to the police, as many as up to 1,000 people and several hundred vehicles gathered at various locations in Umeå over the weekend.

On the police's website, Fredrik Jeppsson now writes that there is a growing trend of spontaneous car hits that mainly attract young people aged 14–20 and up.

But that the police also meet even younger children.

Occurs alcohol and drugs

- Unfortunately, when the degree of intoxication increases, the mood changes.

We do not want to drag everyone over a ridge, but we see the downsides and risks in this environment.

We see that there is a lot of alcohol and also a certain amount of drugs in these contexts.

With the degree of intoxication, the risk of violent crimes and accidents also increases, says Fredrik Jeppsson.

Now the police are urging parents to talk to their children and young people about what they do and who they hang out with.

- We do not see it as appropriate for children to stay in, for example, a parking lot where there is plenty of alcohol and drugs.

We need the parents' help to have a dialogue with the young people to bring about change in the long run.

We also want to call on all young people who are motorized to take responsibility.

During the pandemic, it is especially important not to encourage people to gather in large gatherings, says Fredrik Jeppsson.
