The young Russian Kliment Kolesnikov further lowered the world record in the 50 m backstroke, in 23 sec 80, in the final of the European Swimming Championships, Tuesday in Budapest.

Twenty-four hours earlier, Kolesnikov had become the first man to pass under the 24 seconds mark in this non-Olympic race, in 23 93 sec precisely, in the semi-finals.

The previous world record (24.00), already his property, dated from the 2018 European Championships in Glasgow.

The 20-year-old Russian, triple European champion three years ago, (50 m backstroke, 100 m backstroke and 4x100 m men), thus offers himself his first individual title in the Hungarian basin, the day after that obtained with the men's 4x100m.

He will swim the 100m final on Wednesday night.

He holds the best world performance of the season, in 47 sec 31.
