The Baltic salmon is not feeling well and in Ljungan south of Sundsvall it is protected from fishing.

The background is poor reproduction, perhaps as a result of the recurring diseases that have affected many Baltic rivers.

Want to fish salmon

- I would like to fish for salmon, says the angler Petri Roininen but notes that when there is dead fish in the river, the interest disappears.

The lung has been hit hard by disease outbreaks where the background is not completely clear but where it is believed that a deficiency in the substance thiamine is a cause.

Not the worst affected

At the same time, Ljungan is one of the rivers where salmon show a deteriorating genetic situation.

The heather is not the worst affected, but since it is one of the watercourses around the Baltic Sea area where salmon reproduce on their own and where diseases and poor regrowth have been a recurring problem, a new threat to the fish is the last thing the river needs.
