A few hours from the reopening of the restaurants, the terrace timber vendors are crumbling in demand.

In a company in the Vosges, employees produce between 600 and 800 m2 of terraces every day.

Unheard of for the seven employees of the plant.

The second stage of deconfinement is about to be taken. From this Thursday, bars and restaurants will be able to reopen their terraces and welcome customers, following strict sanitary rules. To help professionals, several cities in France have taken measures to authorize the expansion of terraces, particularly on parking spaces.

Faced with demand from cafetiers and restaurateurs, lumber merchants and patio manufacturers are struggling to keep pace.

In Gérardmer in the Vosges, the seven employees of "Vosges Thermo Bois" keep up.

The company, which produces wooden planks for terraces, sends between 600 and 800 m2 of terraces to manufacturers every day.

"I've been here for eleven years, I've never done this rhythm," says an employee of the company at the microphone of Europe 1.

Six to eight weeks delay

"Terrace orders, since February, we had to make a hundred", explains Sabrina, who manages the teams.

To make a wooden terrace, the company treats the wood in order to resist the onslaught of time, humidity, fungi, insects but also alcohol.

To achieve this, the wood is heated in a huge oven: "It works like a boiler. We have three huge burners coupled with a ventilation which stirs the air to bring everything up to 237 degrees", explains Charles, who works. in the society.

No miracle, however, for latecomers who, faced with demand, will now have to wait six to eight weeks before obtaining their wooden deck.
