On May 18, local time, according to a foreign media citing a notice from the Paris Police Department, due to the recurrence of lead-containing dust around Notre Dame Cathedral, the square in front of it was temporarily closed that day, and pedestrians and vehicles were not allowed to enter.

According to the Paris Police Department, after the clean-up work is complete and the inspection standards are met, the blocked area can be reopened.

On April 15, 2019, a fire broke out in Notre Dame Cathedral. Its roof and spire were burned down, but the main building was preserved.

It was later confirmed by the Health Bureau of the Greater Paris Region in June that the fire caused lead pollution around Notre Dame Cathedral. The reason was that the burned part of Notre Dame Cathedral contained a large amount of lead, which was scattered into the air and surrounding areas along with the dust.

In August 2019, the Paris City Government conducted an in-depth cleanup of relevant areas.

However, the cause of the recurrence of lead pollution has not yet been clearly stated by the Paris Police Department.
