China News Service, Wuhan, May 18 (Reporter Liang Ting) The key areas of the Hubei section of the Yangtze River will start a two-year biodiversity background survey this year to provide support for the future conservation and restoration of the Yangtze River's biodiversity.

The Hubei Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment held a press conference on the 18th to introduce the province’s biodiversity conservation and the construction of an ecological province.

Cai Junxiong, president of the Hubei Provincial Academy of Eco-Environmental Sciences, introduced that this biodiversity survey and assessment pilot mainly focuses on key areas on the mainstream of the Yangtze River. Rich counties (cities, districts) carry out pilot surveys.

According to reports, the province has initially selected Yichang City (Dianjun District, Yiling District), Jingzhou City (Shishou City, Jianli City), Wuhan City (Caidian District, Xinzhou District), and Huanggang City (Huangmei County). 4 cities and 7 counties (cities, districts) are the first batch of pilot areas. The length of the mainstream of the Yangtze River covered by the survey area accounts for about 30% of the Hubei section of the Yangtze River, which basically covers various typical ecosystems of the province's mountains, hills, plains and wetlands.

Cai Junxiong said that the focus will be on comprehensive investigations and assessments of ecosystems, terrestrial higher plants, terrestrial vertebrates, terrestrial insects, freshwater aquatic organisms, and macrofungi in key areas along the main stream of the Yangtze River.

Covering the two major aspects of biodiversity (genetic diversity, species diversity and ecosystem diversity), species diversity and ecosystem diversity, it can more comprehensively reflect organisms other than microorganisms and genetic genes in the mainstream of the Yangtze River Diversity background situation.

He pointed out that a comprehensive understanding of the species family through the pilot program will help Hubei organize to carry out global biodiversity surveys, observations, assessments, and to develop a performance evaluation system for the protection of aquatic biodiversity in the Yangtze River during the fishing ban, and to provide for the next step to promote the protection of the Yangtze River. Theory support.
