Events A taxi driver arrested for the second time for stealing 10 customers of legal age and taking their credit cards
Sara, Daniel and Jorge are three students from the
IES Griñón high
school in Madrid
. These minors, with fictitious names to preserve their identity, have been studying from home with a
Home Educational Support Service (SAED) since March
. Sara is 15 years old and has been bullied for months before the start of the pandemic. At school, a group of children in her class went from verbal and cyber abuse to physical abuse on occasion. "At first we thought they were children's things and we let it pass, but one day my daughter came home saying that they had tried to throw her down the stairs. At that moment I decided to report the facts," the victim's mother tells EL MUNDO.
The center's counselor spoke with the students to fix the situation and the next day those responsible apologized to Sara, although the harassment continued. This intimidation was transferred shortly after to his brother, Daniel (13), and his friend, Jorge (12), who were
photographed and insulted
by a
group
in which Sara was.
"I noticed that Jorge was very nervous and got the least bit angry, until one day he told me that he did not want to go back to school because some children called him 'fagot, fat and schizophrenic'. Now he is taking anxiolytics, when he had never been medicated before "explains the child's mother.
The response of the center in this case was to assign the child an individual session to work on his
"social skills"
.
For her part, Sara and Daniel's legal guardian comments: "My daughter did not want to talk or go out and began to decline. Right now she has severe depression and has even had two suicide attempts."
HARASSMENT PROTOCOL
Going to the center, the parents of the three children requested, up to two times, to activate the
harassment protocol
that is applied in cases like this.
The procedure consists of conducting
interviews with the student witnesses and teachers
of the school.
In this way, a group of people specialized in the subject clarifies whether there really is intimidation and mistreatment of the alleged aggressors to the victims.
However, the
Department of Education of the Community of Madrid
could not confirm the case.
"Once the protocols have been completed, it has been concluded that there is no harassment situation as there is no imbalance of power and there is not enough repetition in time to justify the situation," as reported to this newspaper.
The two families of those affected say that one of the minors who was going to testify on behalf of the victims was
threatened by those responsible for
the harassment so that he would not speak, even throwing scissors at him.
Faced with this situation, the parents decided to apply for the SAED, which was granted, so that their children could continue their studies from home.
Given the continued absence of minors at the institute, the center's management requested the
Educational Inspection Service
to mediate.
Three weeks ago the families were summoned to social services to open a
truancy table
that was also requested from the center's management.
"We have all the absences of the children justified", assure the mothers.
The
director of the IES Griñón
alleges that the case is "in the hands of the Ministry of Education", without making any further statement in this regard to this newspaper. Meanwhile, the Ministry is waiting for an alternative: "From the school center, the aforementioned families have been urged to look for a school position in a center that they consider more appropriate to the interests of their children, since the students cannot remain in the same way. indefinite without going to class ".
Currently, the Inspection Service is studying the case to find the best solution for these students and the center.
The parents of the harassed demand that
the abuse
be
eradicated in the institute
, that those responsible be penalized and that their children "can go to the center and study with dignity."
