- Since it has been cold for so long, the spring flood has become a little later and it will probably be over quite quickly because there is not much snow and ice left that can melt, in summary it will not be unusually large if you look over the entire time period, says SVT : S meteorologist Tora Tomasdottir.

So late in the year, the sun stays up for a long time and much of what melts goes up into the air instead of down into the waterways.

In addition, the plants also absorb water now, which means that the spring flood is smaller.

The size of the spring flood is usually determined by three factors;

snow layers, how fast it melts and if there has been a lot of rain in connection with the melting.

This year's spring flood has been late due to the cold, but now it has picked up speed.

In the clip, Patrik Qvicker reports from Idre, where on 17 May there has not been an equally large spring flood in over two decades.
