There are 17.52 million more men of marriageable age than women

The results of the seventh national census showed that the male population was 723.34 million, accounting for 51.24%; the female population was 688.44 million, accounting for 48.76%.

There are 34.9 million more men than women.

It is said that these men will be "bachelor".

Does the pressure of male marriage increase?

In this regard, Fu Linghui said that these 30 million people are distributed at different ages. Among them, there are 17.52 million more men of marriageable age between 20-40 than women, and the sex ratio is 108.9.

Fu Linghui said that among young people, the problem of more men and fewer women is a realistic problem, but the establishment of marriage and love relationships is affected by many factors such as age, living area, personal morality, education level, values, family background, etc. It is just one aspect. We should study the current marriage problems from multiple angles.

Fu Linghui believes that with the implementation of the comprehensive two-child policy and the change in fertility concepts brought about by economic and social development, the sex ratio of the birth population in my country is gradually decreasing.

The data shows that both the sex ratio of the total population and the sex ratio of the birth population have decreased.

Among them, the sex ratio of the total population (100 women, the ratio of men to women) is 105.07, which is basically the same as in 2010, but slightly lower.

The sex ratio at birth was 111.3, a decrease of 6.8 from 2010.

The gender structure of our population has continued to improve.

China is still in a mildly aging stage

From the perspective of age composition, the population of 0-14 years old is 253.38 million, accounting for 17.95%; the population of 15-59 years old is 89.438 million, accounting for 63.35%; the population of 60 and over is 264.02 million, accounting for 18.70% (of which, The population of 65 years and over is 190.64 million, accounting for 13.50%).

Fu Linghui pointed out that there are some misunderstandings in the society about the degree of aging in China. Some people think that China has entered a deeply aging society, but in the world, more than 10% of the population over 60 years old have entered an aging society, and 10% -20% are mild aging, 20%-30% are moderate aging, and more than 30% are severe aging.

"The proportion of China's population aged 60 and above is 18.7%, which shows that China is still in a mildly aging stage." Fu Linghui said.

Responding to conflicts in population data

Some netizens have noticed that there is a contradiction between the seventh national census data and the previous non-census year population data.

In this regard, Fu Linghui explained that the population data of non-census years are estimated by sampling surveys, so there are survey and sampling errors.

The population data of the year of the census is obtained through a comprehensive survey, and the data is more comprehensive and accurate. This is why countries around the world have to carry out censuses in order to find out the population status.

Fu Linghui said that in accordance with international practice, after the population census, the sampling projection data between the two censuses will be revised, which will eliminate the difference between the current sampling projection data and the new data obtained in the census.

Currently, this work is being done by the National Bureau of Statistics and will revise the total population, birth population, urbanization rate and other relevant data between the two censuses.

Fu Linghui shared a few data: In 2016, the originally announced number of births was 17.86 million. According to the revised age-specific population data of the census, the number of births was 18.83 million, an increase of 970,000.

In 2017, the original birth population data was 17.23 million, and the revised figure was 17.65 million, an increase of 420,000.

The number of births in the relevant year between the two censuses has to be revised and increased by about 1 million people a year on average.

The detailed data will be released in the 2021 China Statistical Abstract.
