Israel's increasingly intense attacks on Gaza are said to have killed about 40 people in the past 24 hours.

At the same time, rocket fire from Gaza against Israel continues.

Attempts to reach a ceasefire have so far failed.

Mixed cities are torn apart

On site in East Jerusalem is SVT's correspondent in the Middle East, Stina Blomgren, together with photographer Pablo Torres.

- We rather see that Israel's bombings of Gaza are escalating and there has been speculation that the Israeli military is trying to inflict as much damage as possible on Hamas before any negotiations on a ceasefire.

But in a televised speech, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the bombing of Gaza will continue and last a long time, says Stina Blomgren.

On the way to Jerusalem, the team drove past the city of Lod, where the traces of the violence were clear through, for example, burned car tires and broken paving stones.

- This worries very many in Israel, who are just worried that the mixed cities and communities are being torn apart.

At least 33 dead on Sunday

Sunday has continued in the same way as in recent days: Hamas fires rockets at cities in Israel that respond with air strikes on targets in the Gaza Strip.

The number of deaths is rising at the same time as mediation attempts have so far been fruitless.

Early on Sunday morning, at least 33 people, including eight children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike against Gaza, the AP reports with reference to the Gaza health authority.
