The collapse of bleachers at a synagogue in Givaat Zeev, an Israeli settlement near Jerusalem, left at least 60 injured, including 10 seriously, on Sunday, the Israeli rescue services reported.
Hundreds of worshipers were gathered there to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Shavuot (Pentecost) in this synagogue when the bleachers gave way under their feet.
According to a spokesman for Magen David Adom, Israeli relief, the structure was "under construction".
Prayer prohibited in this building
"It was forbidden to pray in this building," said the commander of the Jerusalem police, Doron Tourgeman, on the spot.
The first images released by Israeli media show the back row of the synagogue, where dozens of men stood praying, breaking in seconds, knocking worshipers to the ground and creating a crowd movement.
The event comes less than a month after the giant stampede that left 45 people dead, including children, during a pilgrimage in which thousands of Orthodox Jews took part to Mount Meron in northern Israel.
