Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying announced:

As the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council in May, China will hold an emergency public meeting of the Security Council on the Palestine-Israel conflict on May 16.

State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi will preside over the meeting and deliver a speech via video.

In recent days, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has caused a large number of casualties and regional tensions have further escalated.

As the rotating chairman of the Security Council, China has promoted the Council to hold two emergency consultations on the Palestine-Israel conflict and drafted a press statement by the Security Council chairman.

China hopes that through the emergency open meeting of the Security Council on the 16th, all parties will promptly cease hostilities and resume political dialogue as soon as possible. At the same time, the international community, especially the Security Council, will play an active role in easing tensions and politically resolving the Middle East issue.
