Since the start of a new conflict with Palestinian armed groups in the Gaza Strip controlled by Hamas, Israel has faced the highest rate of rockets ever fired into its territory, the IDF said on Sunday.

About 3,000 rockets have been fired at Israel since May 10, beating the pace of fire in an escalation in 2019 and the 2006 war against Hezbollah in Lebanon, Gen. Ori Gordin said during a meeting in Lebanon. line with reporters.

A record in six days

During an escalation with Islamic Jihad in November 2019, 570 rockets were launched at Israel from the Gaza Strip and during the war with Hezbollah in the summer of 2006, 4,500 rockets were launched from southern Lebanon towards Israel in 19 days.

But since last Monday, armed groups in the blockaded Palestinian enclave, starting with Hamas and Islamic Jihad, have launched around 3,000 rockets into Israeli territory, General Gordin said.

Asked if this was therefore the highest rate of rockets ever fired at Israel, he replied: "Not only do I agree, but this is what I just presented."
