Catalonia The independence movement reaches a minimum agreement to try to avoid elections
The independence movement has always used the mobilization in the street to pressure. Whether organized or not, a protest with hundreds of people before the Generalitat, accompanied by a campaign on social networks, has been enough to prevent Carles Puigdemont from calling elections in October 2017 before the Unilateral Declaration of Independence. There have been large mobilizations throughout the community, not only on dates such as September 11, but also after what the independence movement has considered grievances from Spain, such as the Supreme Court ruling against former members of the Generalitat for sedition that they generated serious altercations.
However, in recent weeks this capacity for sovereign mobilization in the street has been turning against the parties themselves. Not only because of the 'escrache' encouraged from JxCat before the ERC headquarters when the Republicans made their proposal to govern alone, but this Sunday about a thousand people summoned by the Catalan National Assembly (ANC) have demonstrated before the Generalitat to give an "ultimatum" to the secessionist formations to reach an agreement and not repeat elections.
"If you advocate a new election or if a government is repeated without a plan to advance towards independence, the ANC will never be at your side again," said the president of the entity, Elisenda Paluzie, who recalled that after the February elections A "clearly" independentist Generalitat emerged as these formations obtained 52% of the votes. For this reason, they assured that the sovereign entities are "more disappointed than ever" when they see that the pro-independence parties "squander" the result of three months ago.
The deadline to reach an agreement before the re-election is May 26.
For this reason, the independence movement warned in the street that ERC and JxCat have "one last chance to reach an agreement."
The CUP, the third party in discord, was not framed in these demands since its presence in a hypothetical pact depends on the will of the other two independentist formations that continue to defoliate the margarita in a negotiation in which ERC and JxCat seek to obtain advantages. and power quotas within the structure of the future Catalan Executive.
