Stuttgart (dpa) - According to a survey, four out of five employees want to spend at least part of their working hours in the home office in the future.

In a survey by the auditing and consulting firm EY available to the German Press Agency, 81 percent of all respondents said they no longer wanted to work in the office every weekday in the future. According to this, 38 percent prefer three to four working days a week, 36 percent only one or two office working days. 7 percent stated that they want to work exclusively from home. Conversely, 19 percent of those surveyed do not want to work from home (anymore) in the future if they have their way.

The desire for more flexible models is particularly high among 20 to 30-year-olds: In this age group, 86 percent stated that they would like to do part of their working hours from home in the future.

This need is less pronounced among 31 to 40 year olds (77 percent) and among 41 to 50 year olds (78 percent).

Older and younger workers were not interviewed.

In perspective, a clear majority expects that the question of where work is done from will soon no longer play a decisive role in the professional world.

84 percent of those surveyed agreed with the thesis that in 2030 they will probably be able to work completely independent of location.

78 percent believe that in ten years they will even be able to organize their working hours with complete flexibility.

Around half of those surveyed can imagine that there will be no company buildings at all in 2030.

In the event that the location may no longer play a role in future work, some of the respondents are considering moving to the countryside (29 percent) or even working from their favorite vacation spot (25 percent).

The majority of employees are already taking advantage of the option to work from home, as a company survey by the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) showed.

At the end of April, three out of four employees worked at home, if the job permits and their employer gives them the opportunity.

28 percent of the respondents worked exclusively in the home office, 47 percent at least partially.

According to the survey, almost half of the companies (46 percent) allow at least some of their employees to work at home.
