15 May 2021 The Foggia-Guardia Sanframondi ends in the pedals of the 25-year-old Victor Lafay, the eighth Apennine stage of the Giro (170 kilometers) with a fast first part, a long GPM and a challenging tear in the final that the Frenchman tames great, breaking away from the other companions escape (started after 65km) and arriving alone at the finish. No success but still a place of honor for Italy, with a splendid Francesco Gavazzi who finished second at 36 ”behind the winner. Third, next to it, the German Arndt, then Nelson Oliveira and fifth, another blue, Giovanni Carboni.



The Hungarian Attila Valter, who arrived in the very detached (5 minutes) group of the best, keeps the pink jersey for the third consecutive day. In the general classification, with unchanged gaps, evenepoel (+11 ") and Bernal (+16") always follow.   



After the triumphs of Wednesday in Cattolica and yesterday in Termoli, unexpected retirement for Caleb Ewan, with the Giro losing another important piece: the 26-year-old Australian sprinter (he was wearing the cyclamen jersey) fell in a tunnel after having covered 35 kilometers and was forced to drop out (knee problems). After having crossed the flying finish line in Campobasso first, Colombian Gaviria (he was one of the nine on the run) was also on the ground, injured in his hands but, even if in pain, he got back on the saddle anyway (he finished ninth).



Tomorrow the ninth fraction, starting from Castel di Sangro and arriving uphill in Campo Felice after 158 kilometers.
