Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - In Saarland there was a first special vaccination campaign for people who live in cramped living conditions and are socially disadvantaged.

Around 200 residents registered for the special vaccination campaign of the Pedagogical-Social Action Group (Pädsak) in Saarbrücken on Saturday.

The Saarland state government has made around 200 doses of Biontech vaccine available, said Eva Jung-Neumann from Pädsak.

A mobile vaccination team was on duty.

The offer for people in the residential district of Wackenberg had a great response, and even more people had registered, reported Jung-Neumann.

A total of around 2,400 people lived in the area.

Those who are now vaccinated will receive their second syringe in six weeks.

With the special vaccinations, Saarland wants to reach people who are cramped or live in socially difficult circumstances.

"There we have to facilitate access to vaccination offers in order to break possible chains of infection in a targeted manner," said Minister of Social Affairs Monika Bachmann (CDU) on Friday.

Vaccination campaigns with mobile vaccination teams are also planned in other, similar locations in Saarland.
