Kiel (AP) - Defending champion THW Kiel has maintained the league lead in the handball Bundesliga with a work victory.

The North Germans won their home game against HBW Balingen-Weilstetten on Saturday with 38:34 (21:19).

Circle runner Hendrik Pekeler scored seven goals for the «zebras».

Tim Nothdurft was eight times successful for the guests.

In view of the tight schedule, THW trainer Filip Jicha gave some of the regulars a break.

Dario Quenstedt started in goal, Malte Voigt and Sven Ehrig started on the outside positions.

Sander Sagosen, on the other hand, was back in action after his feverish infection.

The Balingers who had come weak as a substitute took advantage of the voting problems with the «zebras» and worked out a 5: 3 lead (6th).

HBW, who played almost continuously with the seventh field player, also countered the Kiel interim high to 12: 9 (16 th) with a four-goal run to 13:12 (19 th).

After just under 20 minutes, Jicha reacted and brought in Harald Reinkind and Niclas Ekberg more experienced players.

But Balingen remained toxic even after the break, took the lead again with René Zobel with 25:24 (37th) and kept the connection into the final phase.

Only at 35:32 (56th) by Rune Dahmke was the decision in favor of Kiel.
