The project is funded by the EU and the aim is to develop carbon-neutral mining.

This is done by replacing diesel-powered vehicles with battery-powered ones that are also self-steering.

- You should be able to turn off the lights and go from there and production should be able to continue, says operations manager Pär-Erik Martinsson at LTU.

30 percent more efficient mining

A more self-propelled operation requires a smaller need for ventilation, something that is now very expensive for the mining industry.

- We will be able to contribute with 30 percent more efficient mining from this project, says Martinsson.

To increase safety, drones are used when inspecting mines after blasting and humans will be given a new role.
