Leverkusen (AP) - Former national soccer player Sven Bender has to wait for a game in the penultimate game of his career.

The 32-year-old is initially only a substitute for Bayer Leverkusen in the game against 1. FC Union Berlin on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky).

His twin brother Lars Bender, who like Sven will end his career after the season, will no longer be able to play by then.

The club announced on Saturday that Lars Bender will be named the club's seventh honorary captain after Rüdiger Vollborn, Carsten Ramelow, Ulf Kirsten, Bernd Schneider, Simon Rolfes and Stefan Kießling.

Somewhat surprisingly, Joel Pohjanpalo is sitting outside among the guests from Berlin.

The Finnish international striker, who was loaned from Leverkusen, was part of the starting line-up in the last two games.

However, the 26-year-old had to make way for Max Kruse, who has fully recovered and stormed next to Petar Musa from the start.
