Augsburg (dpa) - The hoped-for effect of the change of coach has worked very well at FC Augsburg, according to manager Stefan Reuter with returnees Markus Weinzierl.
“It worked,” said Reuter on Saturday after FCA's 2-0 win in a direct relegation duel with Werder Bremen.
Before the last matchday with the difficult away game at the German soccer champions FC Bayern Munich, Augsburg was saved early.
Weinzierl had replaced Heiko Herrlich before the last three games of the season.
"It was once again an extremely difficult season," said Reuter.
"Playing the Bundesliga for eleven years in a row is an absolute dream for us," said the 1990 world champion happily.
Weinzierl's contract now runs for another season.
With him after the rescue "a lot of burden", said the 46-year-old coach.
