Rome (AP) - One day after his victory over Alexander Zverev, Rafael Nadal entered the final of the Tennis Masters tournament in Rome.

The nine-time winner from Spain beat the surprise semi-finalist Reilly Opelka from the USA 6: 4, 6: 4.

In the other semifinals, defending champion Novak Djokovic from Serbia and Italian Lorenzo Sonego face each other in the evening.

Djokovic only reached the semifinals on Saturday afternoon with a hard-fought 4: 6, 7: 5, 7: 5 over the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Serb managed to turn things around after he was behind in the second set when the game was canceled due to rain on Friday.

In the women's category, the Czech Karolina Pliskova made it into the final on Sunday for the third time in a row.

The former world number one defeated the Croatian Petra Martic 6: 1, 3: 6, 6: 2.

Two years ago, Pliskova won the WTA tournament.

The opponent this time is French Open winner Iga Swiatek.

The Poles defeated US young star Coco Gauff 7: 6 (7: 3), 6: 3.
