The Miss Universe election takes place Sunday evening, May 16 in California.

The event is not of great political importance, but the surprise could come from the Burmese candidate Thuzar Wint Lwin.

She decided to make it a platform to speak out in favor of the pro-democracy movement in her country.

Last Thursday, already, the 22-year-old miss paraded with a traditional costume and a message "

Pray for Myanmar

", also known as Burma.

This international Miss Universe contest, Thuzar Wint Lwin, nicknamed "Candy" has always dreamed of it to represent his country.

But that all changed on February 1 when the junta decided to nullify its vote for the Aung San Suu Kyi National Party for Democracy.

Candy then takes to the streets like millions of her fellow citizens to demand the leader's release.

Since then, the psychology graduate has continued to multiply the messages on social networks.

Messages of support to the demonstrators and calls for help to the international community.

Thursday, during the parade in traditional costume, it is not hers, lost during the trip that she wears, but another loaned by the Burmese community in the United States.

A sublime set of the Chin community, in western Burma, where the junta imposed martial law this week to better quell a rebellion.

At the end of her parade, she held up a sheet with the inscription “

 Pray for Myanmar

 ”.

Candy is not the only Burmese woman to have spoken out against the junta from abroad.

Mixed martial arts champion Aung La Nsang called on President Joe Biden for help.

But unlike him, Candy is not American and she does not know if she will return home after the contest.
