Hamburg (dpa / lno) - A heavily drunk man had a shopping cart driven into the track bed at Hamburg's Königstrasse S-Bahn station and thus caused a collision with an S-Bahn.

According to initial findings, the 57-year-old lost control of a shopping cart he was carrying on the platform on Friday evening, whereupon it fell onto the train tracks, the federal police said.

A driver of an S-Bahn entering the station was unable to prevent a collision with the car despite the emergency braking being initiated.

An ambulance crew who happened to be present stopped the 57-year-old from getting onto the tracks and alerted the emergency call.

As a result, the S-Bahn line in question was closed for around half an hour and the current on the rails was turned off.

Federal police forces were then able to recover and secure the shopping trolley.

The 57-year-old was then determined to have a breath alcohol level of 2.25 per mille.
