Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - A 62-year-old woman had to pay bitterly for her quick willingness to help: The Mannheim woman received a call on Friday from a sobbing woman who pretended to be her daughter.

This reported that she had caused a fatal traffic accident and should now be brought before the judge.

The police spoke in their message from Saturday of a "shock call".

The alleged daughter asked for 50,000 euros to avert the threat of pre-trial detention.

This would have to be paid to the court cashier as soon as possible.

The 62-year-old took a large amount of cash and immediately drove to the main train station in Mannheim, where she handed the money over to an alleged court employee.

During the journey, she was in constant contact with an alleged public prosecutor.

Only after receiving a call from her actual daughter a little later did she realize that she had been caught up in a perfidious fraud and notified the police.

However, she did not hand over the entire amount requested, "only" 17,000 euros.
