Lisbon (dpa) - Visitors from Germany and from other EU countries with a relatively good Corona situation are allowed to enter Portugal again for tourist purposes from Monday.

The previously applicable entry restrictions will no longer be extended for citizens from EU countries with a 14-day incidence of less than 500, said the Interior Ministry in Lisbon.

The relaxations also apply to the associated members of the Schengen area Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Iceland as well as to Great Britain.

All travelers over two years of age still have to present a negative PCR test, which must not be older than 72 hours.

According to the information, countries with 500 or more infections per 100,000 inhabitants within 14 days are exempt from this relaxation for entry by air or sea.

These include Croatia, Cyprus, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Sweden.

From these EU countries you are only allowed to enter the country if you have a valid reason at least until the end of May.

The state of emergency to contain the pandemic ended on May 1 after around five and a half months.
