The news was eagerly awaited.

Travelers from France will no longer be subject to the 14-day quarantine

upon arrival in Portugal

.

Until now, nationals of countries with an incidence equal to or greater than 500 new cases of

Covid-19

per 100,000 inhabitants had to comply with the rule.

More importantly, the requirement to have a compelling reason to come to the country is lifted.

However, all passengers over two years of age must present a negative PCR test of less than 72 hours before boarding.

However, the measure of prophylactic isolation and essential motive remains in effect for countries such as South Africa, Brazil and India.

And in Europe: Croatia, Lithuania, Cyprus, the Netherlands and Sweden.

Gain the advantage over Greece, Spain and Italy

The United Kingdom is also free from constraints.

Portugal, already on the United Kingdom's green list as a possible destination, has decided to facilitate arrival on its territory and take the advantage against Greece, Spain and Italy

to start the tourist season

.

The British, who represented

2 million tourists out of the 16 million received in 2019, are

increasing their bookings in the Algarve, the southern tourist region and on the island of Madeira.

Portugal hopes that the French and many Europeans will follow suit from May 17th.
