Zwickau (dpa / sn) - Youth unemployment in Saxony has risen in the corona pandemic.

According to statistics, the proportion of those affected was 7.0 percent last year - 1.5 percentage points more than the national average.

In 2019 it was 6.1 percent in the Free State.

«Too many young people in Saxony lack prospects.

The situation has worsened due to the corona pandemic, ”said Sabine Zimmermann, a member of the Bundestag for the Left from Zwickau, to the German Press Agency on Saturday.

As in the previous year, the share in Saxony was higher than the unemployment rate for all civilian workers.

Nationwide, however, it is the other way around.

“When they find a job, it is usually paid significantly less than the national average. No wonder that many young, often well-qualified people are turning their backs on our state and looking for work elsewhere, ”emphasized the politician who heads the Bundestag committee for families, senior citizens, women and youth. She had asked for the numbers on youth unemployment. In the age group of 15 to 25 year olds there were 11,500 unemployed in Saxony in the previous year, 2000 more than in 2019.

According to Zimmermann, rural areas in particular are still a migration area.

“There is also a lack of training opportunities in both in-company and inter-company training.

But those who do their training in the automotive sector in Stuttgart, for example, will not return to Zwickau or Leipzig. "

You need a real training and labor market offensive for young people in Saxony.

Here the state government has a duty to provide targeted support to young people and young adults.
