The President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Dr. Ahmed Al-Raysouni, and the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, called on the Arab and Islamic nations to support the Palestinian people in their recent gift against the Israeli occupation.

Raissouni expressed in a telephone interview with Al-Jazeera on Friday evening, "the nation's pride and pride in the uprising against the occupation that is taking place these days despite the martyrs offered by Palestine."

He added that there is an upheaval in the Arab and Islamic street, and that the masses will move throughout the Islamic world and pressure Arab and Muslim rulers to take positions from what is happening in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Raissouni said, "We are proud of the Palestinian movement, which we have not seen for many years, and which embodies the unity of Palestine and the Palestinian cause."

He considered that the current Palestinian gift is a victory for the Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem and in solidarity with the people of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood means that "the civilized, urban, human and social Judaization of Jerusalem is no longer an easy matter for the occupation," and that "Israel can no longer do what it wants."

In turn, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb called for the support of the oppressed Palestinian people in their cause, criticizing at the same time "global silence and double standards" regarding this issue.

Al-Tayyib added in a tweet on his Facebook page in 15 languages ​​- including Hebrew -, "I call on the peoples of the world and their leaders to support the peaceful and oppressed Palestinian people in their legitimate and just cause in order to recover their right, their land and their sanctities."

He continued, "Stop killing and support the one who is right. Silence and double standards are sufficient if we are truly working for peace. I pray to God to have mercy on the martyrs of Palestine, and to provide them with the mercy and forgiveness of His mercy."

On the other hand, the International Union of Muslim Scholars called for a festival of solidarity with Palestine at eight o'clock this evening, Saturday, in the square near the Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque.

According to a post on the union’s Facebook page, the festival - for which the slogan "Palestine rises up" - will be attended by Qatari and Palestinian personalities.
